Today Ellen Degeners announced that she will not be returning to judge American Idol although one has to wonder if she decided on her own to leave the very lucrative and very easy job. Her first and only season was marked by lackluster judging skills and coming across as the ultimate decider on who would take Simon Cowell’s place. When rumors were floated that Howard Stern would be tapped for the job, she was very outspoken opposing that and said she and the producers would sit down to decide the replacement.
Ellen DeGeneres was also known as quite the diva on set, demanding huge wardrobe budgets and feeling she should be treated on the same level as Simon, which is just silly. Maybe her exit is simply a move to pave the way for Howard Stern to take over, but It’s unlikely he would leave radio. He prefers to talk about taking over Idol rather than actually doing it.
